A private client with a substantial countryside property built in 1896, commissioned Murnells to construct a large, below-ground swimming pool and spa complex. Set on top of a deep slope, this historic family home is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the client was keen to enjoy the landscape from the new swimming pool and jacuzzi.
Before construction of the new complex could begin, the existing property first needed to be underpinned. This enabled safe excavation of the ground underneath and subsequent construction of reinforced concrete walls.
The complexity and delicacy of this work involved careful planning and close liaison with the project architect, structural engineer and environmental authorities. Open collaboration between all parties, with our client also attending site meetings, enabled a smooth and efficient programme of works.
The completed scheme includes a substantial terrace with sweeping stairs down to the beautifully manicured lawns.
